Questions & Answers

Doesn't chimney sweeping cause a mess?

No. Our chimney sweeps place tarps over your floor. Although we use brushes to actually sweep your chimney, a large vacuum with Hepa filter technology is used to filter fine dust particles, and keep them from entering your home.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

That depends on a number of factors, including the size of your fireplace or stove, usage, type of wood used, and other variables. However, your chimney should be inspected every year. Upon inspection, Chimney Checkers will make a recommendation as to how often you need to have your chimney swept.

What is the cost of Chimney Sweeping?

We may, or may not be the least espensive in Central Kentucky, but you'll find our prices to be very competitive. Our services are thorough, and we're very careful since the safety of your family is at risk. Due to our knowledge and training, part of our services include educating you concerning chimney, venting and safety issues that affect your family and home. Please feel free to contact Chimney Checkers for specific pricing.

Do Artificial Logs Burn Cleaner than Wood?

Since artificial logs have a fair amount of paraffin, they burn hotter than wood.  So there will usually not be any second or third degree creosote from duraflame logs. Duraflame logs still make the chimney dirty. However, it's generally easier to sweep the chimney since it's mainly soot that would need to be removed.

What Should I Consider Before Hiring a Chimney Sweep?

Before hiring a chimney sweep , you may want to ask for the company's credentials or the sweep's level of training. Chimney sweep companies often belong to national trade associations with strict guidelines concerning training and services. Unfortunately, the increased demand for chimney sweep services has lead to a number of fly-by-night operations. A trained chimney sweep should do more than run a wire brush through the chimney several times and leave.

A good chimney sweep should have state-of-the-art inspection equipment and cleaning tools, but should not use the cleaning session as a launching point for upgrades and general repairs. It's not improper for a chimney sweep to point out potential hazards during an inspection, but homeowners should be able to hire other contractors for those repairs, if they choose.
